About CPAP
A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine is a medical device that delivers constant pressurized air through a mask worn during sleep. It keeps your airway open and prevents it from collapsing, treating obstructive sleep apnea. The system consists of three main parts: the machine that generates airflow, the tubing that carries the air, and the mask that delivers air to your nose or nose and mouth. CPAP is the gold-standard first-line treatment for obstructive sleep apnea worldwide.
The machine draws room air through a filter, pressurizes it to a prescribed level, and delivers it via the tubing to your mask. This continuous positive pressure acts as a pneumatic splint that prevents the throat tissues from relaxing and collapsing during sleep. Auto CPAP machines monitor your breathing and automatically adjust pressure — increasing it when obstruction is detected and reducing it when breathing is normal, delivering the minimum effective pressure throughout the night.
CPAP (fixed) delivers a constant pressure all night at the level prescribed by your doctor. APAP (auto-adjusting) automatically adjusts pressure based on your moment-to-moment needs. Auto machines are more comfortable because they do not deliver more pressure than necessary. Most modern machines operate in APAP mode and are marketed as "CPAP" since they perform the same function with added flexibility. Our machine operates in auto-adjusting mode.
It is strongly recommended to have a sleep study first to diagnose your condition and determine the appropriate pressure settings. You can get tested at the Kuwait Sleep Medicine Center (government), Kuwait Hospital (AASM-accredited private), or Zain Hospital Sleep Lab. After diagnosis, we help you configure the machine per your doctor's recommendations. If you have a prior diagnosis from any country, we can assist you directly.
Yes, CPAP is one of the safest and most effective treatments for sleep apnea. Minor side effects like nasal dryness or mask marks are common but easily manageable — a humidifier addresses dryness and proper mask fitting prevents marks. The health risks of untreated sleep apnea (hypertension, heart disease, stroke, excessive daytime sleepiness) are far more serious than any minor therapy side effects.
CPAP effectively treats sleep apnea symptoms but does not cure the underlying condition. As long as you use the machine during sleep, your airway stays open and symptoms disappear. However, if you stop using it, symptoms typically return. In some cases, significant weight loss may improve the condition enough to eliminate the need for the machine. But for most patients, CPAP is an ongoing long-term treatment.
It is recommended to use the machine for your entire sleep duration — typically 7-8 hours. The minimum recommended for meaningful health benefits is at least 4 hours per night. Studies show that health benefits increase with more hours of use, with the best outcomes when using more than 6 hours daily. Try to use it every night without exception for optimal results.
If you stop using CPAP, sleep apnea symptoms typically return — including snoring, breathing pauses during sleep, excessive daytime sleepiness, and morning headaches. Long-term, untreated sleep apnea increases the risk of hypertension, heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. Consult your doctor before making any decision to discontinue therapy.
Buying Guide
The Auto CPAP machine is available for 145 KWD. Masks range from 25-35 KWD depending on type (nasal or full face). The heated humidifier is 35 KWD, and a replacement tube is 12 KWD. You can get a complete therapy setup (machine + mask + humidifier) for approximately 180-215 KWD. These are competitive prices for the Kuwait market.
The right mask depends on how you breathe during sleep. If you breathe only through your nose, the nasal mask (25 KWD) is ideal — lighter, more comfortable, and great for side sleepers. If you mouth breathe or your mouth opens during sleep, the full face mask (35 KWD) is the better choice. Not sure? Contact us via WhatsApp and we will help you decide.

Usage & Care
Place the machine on a flat surface beside your bed. Connect the tubing to the machine and mask. If you have a humidifier, fill the chamber with distilled water. Install the filter in its slot. Plug in and power on the machine. Set the settings per your doctor's recommendations (we will help you with this). Put on your mask and lie down — use the Ramp feature if the pressure feels uncomfortable at first.
Daily: clean the mask cushion with warm water and mild soap, empty the humidifier chamber. Weekly: wash the mask, tubing, and humidifier chamber with warm soapy water, and hand wash the headgear. Monthly: replace the black filter and wipe the machine exterior. Never use bleach, alcohol, or harsh chemicals. Hang the tubing and mask to air dry away from direct sunlight.
Silicone cushion: every 1-3 months (when it loses elasticity, turns yellow, or leaks persistently). Mask frame: every 6-12 months. Headgear: every 6 months or when elasticity is lost. If you notice persistent leaks despite proper mask adjustment, the cushion likely needs replacement. Regular replacement ensures a good seal and effective therapy.
Replace the tube every 3-6 months as routine maintenance. Replace immediately if you notice: discoloration (yellowing or graying), persistent odor despite cleaning, loss of flexibility or stiffness, cracks or small holes, or unusual moisture buildup inside. A damaged tube can reduce therapy effectiveness and become a source of bacteria.
Black filter (washable): rinse every 2 weeks and replace monthly. White fine filter (non-washable): replace every 3-6 months. In Kuwait's dusty environment, you may need more frequent replacement. A clean filter protects the machine motor and ensures clean air delivery. Never use the machine without a filter installed.
First: ensure you are using the correct size. Second: adjust the straps — the golden rule is not to over-tighten; a comfortable snug fit is sufficient. Third: clean the silicone cushion — natural skin oils reduce the seal. Fourth: check that the cushion is not worn or old. Fifth: try fitting the mask while lying down with the machine running, as pressure affects the seal. If the leak persists, you may need a different size or mask type.
Dry mouth usually occurs because your mouth opens during sleep while using a nasal mask (air escapes through the mouth). Solutions: 1) Use a heated humidifier — this is the most effective solution. 2) If using a nasal mask, try a chin strap to keep your mouth closed. 3) If the problem persists, switch to a full face mask. 4) Stay well hydrated before bed.
Our machine operates on universal voltage (100-240V) so no power converter is needed. Pack it in the included travel bag. At the airport, CPAP is a medical device allowed as an extra carry-on item alongside your hand luggage. Inform security that it is a medical device. Use distilled or bottled water in the humidifier. Some airlines may require a medical letter — contact us via WhatsApp and we will help you prepare what you need.
Medical & Diagnosis
Common signs include: loud and frequent snoring, a bed partner witnessing breathing pauses during your sleep, waking up choking or gasping, excessive daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, frequent nighttime urination, and mood changes. If you experience any of these symptoms, especially if you are overweight or have a large neck circumference, see your doctor for a sleep study.
Kuwait has several options: Kuwait Sleep Medicine Center (government, opened 2024, the largest in Kuwait with 7 specialized rooms), Kuwait Hospital (the only AASM-accredited private center), Zain Hospital Sleep Lab (private), and Al-Kindi Hospital (private). You can also get a referral through government hospitals such as Mubarak Al-Kabeer Hospital or Al-Amiri Hospital.
A sleep study (polysomnography) is a painless test usually conducted in a specialized sleep lab for one night. Sensors are placed on your head and body to measure: brain waves (sleep stages), eye movements, heart rate, oxygen levels, airflow, chest and abdominal movement, and body position. Results are analyzed to determine the number and severity of breathing pauses and oxygen levels. The diagnosis determines whether you need CPAP and what pressure is appropriate.
The AHI measures the number of complete breathing pauses (apneas) and partial breathing reductions (hypopneas) per hour during sleep. Classification: below 5 = normal, 5-14 = mild, 15-29 = moderate, 30 or more = severe. CPAP is typically recommended for AHI of 15 or higher, or AHI 5-14 with symptoms like excessive sleepiness. The CPAP machine displays your daily AHI to monitor therapy effectiveness — the goal is below 5 with treatment.
Yes, children can suffer from sleep apnea and can use CPAP, but with pediatric-specific equipment and masks under close medical supervision. In children, the common cause of sleep apnea is enlarged tonsils and adenoids, and surgery may be the first treatment option. If surgery is unsuccessful or not suitable, CPAP is prescribed. Our machines are designed for adults — consult a pediatric sleep medicine specialist.
Not necessarily. Snoring is very common and not everyone who snores has sleep apnea. However, loud and frequent snoring is one of the most prominent signs of obstructive sleep apnea. If snoring is accompanied by other symptoms such as witnessed breathing pauses, waking up choking, excessive daytime sleepiness, or morning headaches, a sleep study should be performed for diagnosis. The only way to confirm is through a specialized sleep test.
